Glastonbury Swimming’s competitors made a great showing at this weekend’s Senior Meet hosted at Wesleyan University.  Connecticut Senior Championships is the highest level swim meet held in Connecticut, and unlike rec meets, there are no age group divisions.  Swimmers must meet a predefined time threshold to qualify for this meet. Kaz Takabayashi (1^st 100 Back, 1^st 100 fly, 4^th 200 Fly, 8^th 200 IM, 11^th 100 Free, 15^th 200 Free) and Emily Magnavita (14^th 200 Free and 21st  500 Free). Our other swimmers in this all state meet were Kate Hegwood, Mary Howard, and Lizzie Magnavita. Congratulations to all our Senior Swimmers!

All 12 and under and 13-14 girls that do not qualify for A Championships will automatically go to B Championships. All 13-18 boys and 15-18 girls will automatically go to A Championships. Championships are the final meets of the season. They are fun and give us an idea of how each swimmer has progressed throughout the season. Please make every effort to have your swimmer(s) attend their Championship meet. For A Championships time standards, please click on the link.

Varsity Meet: Saturday November 14 at Newington - click Pool Directions if necessary. Bus leaves at Noon and will return by approximately 6pm. All swimmers that are not taking the bus, need to get Coach Marci a note by Friday. If we do not have a note by Friday 9pm, the swimmers must take the bus.

CHAMPIONSHIPS

“B” Championships - February 14th in West Hartford at the Mandell JCC

Busses will leave from and return to the GHS back parking lot Bus transportation is provided to all of the away meets except for Championships. Transportation is provided, not only as a service to parents, but as a means of reinforcing the team concept. As a result, swimmers are expected to ride the bus unless they have made prior arrangements with Coach Marci (in writing).  Again, transportation is NOT provided for championships. Championship events are split into morning and afternoon session, thus, providing transportation is not possible.

 

After away swim meets, the buses will return directly to the School. There is an estimated time the bus will be returning to the high school. Parents are expected to be available to pick up their children promptly. If the bus is running late, a call will be made to a parent representative so that parents waiting at the parking lot can be notified.

 

If a swimmer has not reported to the pool at the start of warm-ups for a home meet, they will be scratched from the meet (not permitted to compete in that meet).

 

To save time, swimmers are encouraged to arrive to the bus with their clothes on over their bathing suits. At the end of the meet swimmers are encouraged not to take showers. Many of the pool facilities do not have an adequate number of showers to accommodate the number of swimmers competing in the meet. If everyone took showers, the bus will return much later than the estimated return time.
