Attention all Rec swimmers: Championship sign-up sheets are posted at Addison and GHS. If you signed up online, please double check to make sure your sign-up is correct. If you have not signed up yet, please sign up at the pool. Sign-ups will come down on Friday after practice.
Championships will be held on Saturday, August 7th at East Lyme High School. It is an outdoor facility so please plan appropriately. All swimmers will need to be at the pool no later than 7:20am.
All swimmers attending Age Group Championships: Please be sure to bring plenty of water to the meet as it will be very hot on deck. Please have a spare set of goggles and your Glastonbury caps. Please see Marci if you need a new cap.
Please be at the pool at the following times:
Thursday 13&O: 3:15pm, 12&U and relays: 5:45pm
13&O Friday, Saturday and Sunday @ Welseyan: 6:45am
12&U Friday, Saturday and Sunday @ Cheshire: 6:45am
Finals 11&O Friday, Saturday, Sunday @ Wesleyan: 4:15pm
** Final relays will be decided the day of the relay. If your swimmer has been notified about being in a relay please be at the pool for the morning sessions by 6:45am.

2010 Summer Rec Team Meet Sign Ups UPDATED for CHAMPIONSHIPS!
The web-based Meet Sign-up form has been updated to include REC CHAMPIONSHIP sign-ups. If you have not already done so, please update your swimmers availablity for the two remaining meets July 20 and July 27 as well as Summer Championships which is scheduled for August 7th. Swimmers must have participated in two regular season meets to be eligible for Championships.

Time changes to 13/18 Regional Championship Meets at Wesleyan University: Saturday and Sunday warm-ups will begin at 7:15 am, meet starts at 8:30 am. Saturday PM (Afternoon) session remains unchanged, 1:00 pm warm-up, 2:15 pm start. Sunday PM (afternoon) sessions has been changed to 1:15 pm warm-up, 2:45 pm start.
As always please plan to arrive at the venue 15 minute prior to warmups.

Attention all Rec swimmers and parents attending the meet this afternoon: Please bring a few water bottles with you. Halfway through the meet, there will be an opportunity for spectators to jump in the pool to cool off. Please be prepared for hot conditions.

2010 Summer Rec Team Meet Sign Ups Now Open!
The TEAM Web-based Meet Signups for our swim team is now open. It will afford you the ease of signing up for meets and our coaches a single source of athlete attendence information. Please click on the meet-signups tab to the left and enter your swimmers availability for the summer rec season (Championship SignUps will open at a later date). You will need your family code to signup for meets. If you have not already done so please remit your GSPO Dues($10/family) to Anne Magnavita at 272 Grindle Brook Road, South Glastonbury, CT 06073 or to one of the GSPO board members who will be at practices over the next several days. Your Family Code will be emailed to you. Thanks for your support as we pilot this meet sign up procedure. Please let us know if you have any questions.

The overflow parking lot at Wilton High School will be restricted on Saturday due to Graduation. Morning session parking is the only time parking will be allowed at the HS. There is overflow parking at Allen’s Meadow just past the High School parking lot.
Please check in with Glastonbury parents to sign-up for timing slots when you arrive at the pool.

Posted June 13: A reminder that the practice schedule has changed as of June 12th. The new practice schedule is as follows:
Monday-Friday: All 13&O will practice from 4-6:30pm (dryland will be at the end of practice, please have your sneakers with you|
All 12&U will practice from 5-7:30pm (dryland will be at the beginning of practice, please have your sneakers with you)
Saturdays: Everyone from 4-6pm - NO DRYLAND
On June 24th the schedule will change again. Schedules will be handed out to each swimmer. We are breaking into 3 different practice groups for the summer. If you are interested in one of these positions, please nominate yourself or you may nominate another individual. However, only those persons who have signified their consent to serve shall be listed on the ballot or elected to such office. Glastonbury Swimming’s competitors made a great showing at this weekend’s Senior Meet hosted at Wesleyan University. Connecticut Senior Championships is the highest level swim meet held in Connecticut, and unlike rec meets, there are no age group divisions. Swimmers must meet a predefined time threshold to qualify for this meet. To find out more about USA Connecticut Seniors click here: Seniors at ctswim.org . Our finalist included:
Kaz Takabayashi (1st 100 Back, 1st 100 fly, 4th 200 Fly, 8th 200 IM, 11th 100 Free, 15th 200 Free) and Emily Magnavita (14th 200 Free and 21st 500 Free). Our other swimmers in this all state meet were Kate Hegwood, Mary Howard, and Lizzie Magnavita. Congratulations to all our Senior Swimmers!

All 12 and under and 13-14 girls that do not qualify for A Championships will automatically go to B Championships. All 13-18 boys and 15-18 girls will automatically go to A Championships. Championships are the final meets of the season. They are fun and give us an idea of how each swimmer has progressed throughout the season. Please make every effort to have your swimmer(s) attend their Championship meet. For A Championships time standards, please click on the link.

All home meets are held at Addison Pool. Please have your child arrive at the pool for 4:15 p.m. at check in with the coaches.
Bus transportation will only be provided to the Middlesex Swim Club meet on July 6. The busses will pick-up & drop off the swimmers at the Glastonbury High School. If you are not planning to have your child take the bus BOTH ways, please provide a note to Marci or Mark 1 day prior to the meet. Due to the late return, the high school building may be locked, thus your child may not be able to call you. Please plan on meeting your child at the above referenced time.
Also: Parents are needed to assist at home and away swim meets with such job functions as timers, scorers, concession workers, etc. There are sign up sheets located at each pool. Parent support in vital to the success of the swim team programs.

91 South to Route 9 south to exit 2. Turn left at the end of the ramp. Go under the overpass, at the stop sign, turn right onto Essex Road. After about a ¼ mile turn right and go under the overpass. Road ends at a stop sign. Turn right onto Springbrook Road. Pool is on the left on top of the hill.

Follow Randolph Rd for approximately 4-5 miles, crossing over Rte 17 at the intersection.

Glastonbury Swimmers Parents Organization
Board Member Descriptions and Committees Overview
The Glastonbury Swim Parent's Organization (GSPO) is headed by a Board of Directors. Parental help and input is a necessary part of the program. The GSPO organizes home & away meets by assigning parents to work as officials, scorers, timers, place judges, concession workers and meet managers. GSPO coordinates communication through the website and newsletters; fundraising activities and publicity. Please consider supporting your swimmers' sport by volunteering for one of these committeess or positions.
President:
Presides over meetings of members of the Board and their activities. Acts as primary liaison with Parks and Recreation and Head Coach on behalf of the swim team parents.
Vice President:
Attends all board meetings and in the absence of the President performs all duties incumbent upon the President. Supports the club and its’ committees to ensure successful operation. May be president elect.
Treasurer:
Manages all financial areas of the club. These duties include: working with the Head Coach; Parks and Recreation and the Board in invoicing and collecting of all monies due to the club; reporting on revenue and expenditures at each board meeting; and coordinating the club’s yearly audit.
Secretary:
Maintains the team’s files, including minutes of all Board Meetings and changes to the team bylaws. The Secretary handles correspondence relating to Board activities including notification of all meetings and arrangement of meeting places. The Secretary prepares the agenda for all Board meetings (in consultation with the President, Head Coach, and Parks and Rec and distributes the agenda and agenda supplements to all Board members.
USA Representative:
Acts as primary liaison for USA Swimming – ensuring all USA swimming events are adequately managed and communicated to the Board and USA Swim Team families. Manages the USA Escrow accounts for swimmers.Over sees USA
Hosted Meets, or identifies delegate.
The Varsity Meet Manager:
Responsible for coordinating volunteers for the varsity meets. The Varsity Meet Manager also assures that that the team’s meet supplies are in order. (Stop watches. Clip boards, tape, etc.)
Junior Varsity Meet Manager
: Responsible for coordinating volunteers for the varsity meets. The Junior Varsity Meet Manager also assures that that the team’s meet supplies are in order. (Stop watches. Clip boards, tape, etc.)
Concession:
Manages concessions at home swim meets. Keeps track of inventory, solicits donations and manages parent volunteers.
Officials Committee:
coordinates officials for all home and away swim meets. Helps recruit and mentor officials-in-training for both USA and recreation meets. Makes sure the starting unit is fully charged for each meet.
Technology Coordinators(Meets) Technology Coordinator(WEB)
Manages the electronic starting system, touch pads and other equipment needed for meets. Ensures integration of all hardware and software applications needed for swim team operations and WEB communication. Trains volunteers as needed.
Marketing Committee:
Manages the team bulletin board, coordinates the year book and coordinates any publicity on behalf of the team.
Fundraising Coordinator (Spirit Sales) Fundraising Coordinator (SCRIPS Program)
Manages fundraising opportunities (i.e. team logo apparel; general equipment sales; the SCRIPS program)
Ribbons/Awards Committee:
Orders ribbons and other awards. Coordinates the labeling and distribution of ribbons/awards to swimmers.
Social Committee:
Organizes the team parties and team activities as required.
Goodwill Ambassadors:
Provides face-to-face communication at practices and meets to parents. The purpose is to inform and remind parents of certain team related task or events. Also solicits feedback from parents. This is primarily to keep in touch with JV parents or parents of new swimmers
